I’m pleased you found your way to this website and I hope that you’re inspired to learn how to use Cognitive Therapy not only to lose weight but also to keep it off permanently.
I personally can understand the challenges dieters face because I faced them all myself. I started dieting as a teenager, and went on and off diets for many years. I didn’t understand the importance of good nutrition and certainly didn’t eat a balanced diet until I started having children. Poor eating habits and poor nutrition contributed to my weight going up and down. Eventually I weighed 15 pounds more than I wanted to and just couldn’t seem to lose it until I started applying Cognitive Therapy techniques to myself. I finally was able to break the yo-yo dieting cycle permanently when I realized that in order to successfully stick to a diet, I had to change my thinking about eating and dieting. I lost those 15 pounds more than 10 years ago and I have kept it off ever since.
If you’re like me and have dieted in the past, it’s so important for you to overcome your discouragement and to recognize that this time will be different. This time you’re going to try a new approach. This time you’re going to learn how to motivate yourself every day, how to solve diet-related problems, and especially, how to respond to your sabotaging thoughts. Sabotaging thinking:
| • |
interferes with making changes in your food environment. |
| • |
rationalizes why it’s okay to stray from your diet. |
| • |
demoralizes you if the scale doesn’t go down one week. |
| • |
criticizes you harshly for making mistakes and undermines your confidence. |
| • |
saps your willpower when dieting is occasionally difficult. |
| • |
persuades you of how unfair it is that you can’t eat everything you want. |
| • |
convinces you that you can’t tolerate hunger or cravings. |
| • |
overwhelms you when you think about the changes you have to make. |
If you have never learned Cognitive Therapy skills to address all these problems, no wonder you haven’t been successful in the past. But here’s your chance to learn how to be a successful dieter - for life.
Helping my patients lose weight has been incredibly gratifying. Losing weight has made them gain confidence in all aspects of their lives – in forming new relationships and reviving existing ones, in pursuing new social and recreational activities, and in making strides in their professional lives. Equally important, losing weight has helped them improve their health, feel better physically, and improve their quality of life. The same can be true for you, too.
